Right after stunning the watchmaking scene with its Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in blue ceramic, Audemars Piguet is showcasing even more from its catalog. Since the line is celebrating 50 years of being awesome, here’s another one for buyers to consider. The Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon is a special edition release and thereby limited to only 50 examples.

No doubt most of these are already spoken for. However, you can score one before it all sells out. If you’ve read our piece regarding the ceramic version, then the nuances should be familiar. Nonetheless, the watchmaker opts for a lightweight yet robust metal for the Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon.

For those who are diving into this for the first time, Audemars Piguet introduces a classy timepiece in a 41 mm x 10.7 mm titanium case. Admirers of the geometric form will dig the octagonal outline of its fixed bezel. The vertically brushed surfaces feature hexagonal screws and beveled edges to give it a gem-like appeal.

Its screw-down hexagonal crown features the “AP” engraving. Next, we have the smoked blue-green Grande Tapisserie dial which flaunts a gradient progression from dark to lighter tones toward the center. The Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon lives up to its name with the intricate mechanism in question at 6 o’clock.

Applied hour markers are white gold except for the two baguette-cut diamonds at 12 o’clock. Lume lines the spines along with the white gold Royal Oak hands. The Audemars Piguet signature is in white and appears below the upper three indices of the Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon’s understated dial.

Meanwhile, if you look at the case back, its silhouette mirrors the bezel as both hold a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coatings. You can also check out the 27-jewel Calibre 2950 that oversees its functions via the bottom window.
